Green Gems: Almost Always Affordable

  Bookmark and Share

People everywhere these days want to go green, which is great for the planet, but perhaps we should also go green with green gems. Green gems are some of the most inexpensive stones, if you exclude emeralds and tsavorite. Green gems come from a variety of places and have been created in their own unique ways.

Of the green gems, emeralds are the most well-known and cherished, and have been for many years. Emeralds have also had a higher price tag. No gemstone/jewelry collection is complete without at least one emerald in it.

Peridot is one of the better known green gems, but it is not very expensive. As a birthstone for those born in August, you will see it almost everywhere. Peridot has been in existence for a long time.

Chrome diopside is not as widely known, but it is a green gem that has a deep, rich color. Chrome diopside has been found in many places and has a sparkly exterior. With its tremendous beauty, chrome diopside is still not as expensive as emeralds are.

Prasiolite is quartz that has been heated. This helps it achieve its green color. It fits right in with most of the other green gems as it also is very affordable.

Perhaps the most explosive emergence on the green gems scene belongs to moldavite. Volcanic activities have helped to produce this unusual gemstone.

Even though it has been around for a long time, hiddenite is not very well known. Originally found in North Carolina, and only recently discovered in a few other places, hiddenite is also easily affordable.

These are just some of the green gems you might want to consider adding to your gemstone/jewelry collection. There are very many colors in the world, and green plays a major part.
