January’s modern birthstone is garnet. Garnet has been discovered in many different colors, so choose one that your loved one will cherish—you really can’t go wrong with any of the colors.

 

February’s modern birthstone is amethyst. For that person who’s passionate about purple, this is the stone that is one of the varieties of quartz.

 

March’s modern birthstone is aquamarine. A four-syllable name for a “one”-derful gemstone, aquamarine provides a captivating, comfortable blue color.

 

April’s modern birthstone is diamond or white topaz. Both gemstones are clear winners and, depending on your budget, you get a sensational sparkler with either one that you choose. Of course, diamonds are at the top of the list in toughness.

 

May’s modern birthstone is emerald. Emerald…luscious, rich, refreshing green—very few green gemstones can match the intense beauty this stone offers.

 

June’s modern birthstone is pearl or moonstone. Choose from a pearl that has come from the depths of the water of the ocean or a moonstone that offers you lunar luxury—moonstone doesn’t come from the sky, but its name gives you the thought of being there.

 

July’s modern birthstone is ruby. Ruby is the regal red that the majority of other red gemstones just can’t quite match.

 

August’s modern birthstone is peridot. Wherever you go, take peridot. Many feel this stone gives its wearer a sense of calm and a better chance at success.

 

September’s modern birthstone is sapphire. Originally one of the most expensive blue gemstones, but now available in other colors, such as white or yellow, a sapphire is a sensational stone for those lucky enough to have been born in September.

 

October’s modern birthstone is tourmaline or opal. A rainbow of colors awaits you with either of these fine gemstone choices. Paraiba tourmaline is one of the more sensational tourmaline gemstones ever seen, and it is priced very high. Mexican fire opal is one of the more popular gemstones in the opal family.

 

November’s modern birthstone is citrine or yellow topaz. As the sun sets on another year, its colors are matched quite closely with either of these two gemstones.

 

December’s modern birthstone is turquoise, blue topaz, or tanzanite. Tanzanite is the newest of these three gemstones, and it is also in the shortest supply—try to obtain tanzanite while you can. Blue is obviously the color scheme for December and for those born in this month, you can choose from the various prices and spectrum of blue colors these stones offer.
